D&B is the commonly used source for obtaining public business credit in order to determine a companies ability to maintain prompt payments and meet their business credit obligations.

Consider the following steps when actively managing your PAYDEX and credit profile. The benefit’s may insure more favorable terms with suppliers, potential landlords, and those seeking to determine the credit worthiness of your business.

*Please note business credit is ultimately determined by the financial stability of the company and personal guarantors. D&B is a credit referencing tool that can reflect the credit management of your business.

  1. First, a business should get a unique D-U-N-S number. You can get a D-U-N-S number for free directly from Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp.

  3. Once you have a D-U-N-S number, you should make sure the information on the company is correct. It’s important to provide information including company officers, revenues, employee size, number of years in business as well as business start date.

  5. Once a Duns number has been established and you’ve updated your business credit report, the next step is adding trade references. The purpose of adding additional trade references to your business credit report is to demonstrate the amount of business your company can support and pay back in a timely manner.

Unlike traditional bank financing, relying heavily upon balance sheet strength and historical performance, asset based lenders focus on the quality of collateral, relationships and growth opportunities, rather than credit. To qualify for asset based lending borrowers pledge receivables, inventory, P.O.’s and equipment as collateral to support their growing capital requirements.
